When it comes to assembling or disassembling bearings, the correct application of force is crucial. Proper technique ensures that the bearing functions optimally and avoids unnecessary damage. Here are the key points to consider: (1) The applied force should be directed through the axis of the bearing. This means that the point of contact must be symmetrical and stable. The force should be applied either through the spherical surface or parallel to the bearing's axis to ensure even distribution. (2) The force should be smooth and controlled, avoiding any sudden impacts. It's recommended to use hydraulic pressure or tools that provide consistent tension or pressure. If hammering is necessary, always use a copper sleeve or soft material as a buffer instead of metal. This prevents damage to the bearing surfaces. Using copper rods or hammers is the best practice when tapping. (3) Avoid applying force through the rolling elements. When installing or removing the inner ring (shaft ring), apply force directly to the inner ring. Similarly, when working on the outer ring, focus the force on the outer ring itself to prevent damage to the internal components. (4) Apply force gradually until it reaches the required level. For example, during installation, stop once the bearing is properly seated in its position. Ensure that the end face of the bearing (or washer) makes full contact with the shoulder of the shaft or housing. Do not over-tighten, as this can cause unnecessary stress and reduce the bearing’s lifespan.
