What is bioglass?

Bioglass is a special type of glass designed to interact with biological systems, offering unique functions within the human body. When implanted into bone defects, it can bond directly with surrounding bone tissue, promoting regeneration and restoring normal function. This makes it an ideal material for repairing damaged or missing bone structures.

Developed in 1969 by Dr. Larry L. Hench at the University of Florida, bioglass was a groundbreaking innovation in the field of biomaterials. Its primary composition includes approximately 45% sodium oxide (Na₂O), 25% calcium oxide (CaO), 25% silicon dioxide (SiO₂), and about 5% phosphorus pentoxide (P₂O₅). By adding small amounts of other components such as potassium oxide (K₂O), magnesium oxide (MgO), calcium fluoride (CaF₂), and boron trioxide (B₂O₃), various types of bioglass can be created, each tailored for specific medical applications.

Compared to traditional metal implants, bioglass offers several advantages. It is not only biocompatible but also bioactive, meaning it can integrate with living tissues rather than just being tolerated by the body. This property makes it particularly useful in orthopedic and dental applications where long-term stability and natural healing are essential.

Globe Valve

The globe valve is used to cut off the flow of the medium. The globe valve is suitable for frequently opened occasions. The sealing parts of the globe valve are the disc and the valve seat. In order to make the globe valve close tightly, the mating surface of the disc and the valve seat should be grinding or using gaskets. The sealing surface can also be inset with bronze, stainless steel and other corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant materials. The disc and stem of the globe valve are connected with each other, so that the disc and stem are closely fitted. The lifting of the disc of the globe valve is generally controlled by the stem. The upper part of the stem of the globe valve is the handwheel, and the middle part is the thread and packing sealing section. The role of the packing is to prevent the internal medium of the valve body from leaking along the stem.
