April 26, 2013 - partial eclipse
April 26, 2013 – A Monthly Partial Eclipse
This year’s only partial eclipse took place on the 26th. The eclipse began at 3:52 AM, and the moon gradually re-emerged at 4:23 AM. After hearing about the event, he and his colleague Yang Shi decided to set up a telescope in the open area of their company at 3 AM to observe and capture the entire process of the partial eclipse.
A partial eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align in a straight line, with the Earth positioned between the Sun and the Moon. This alignment causes the Earth to block part of the sunlight that would otherwise reach the Moon, resulting in a partial shadow on its surface.
On the morning of the eclipse, Kunming was unusually lively. Taxis and construction vehicles were moving frequently throughout the night, making the streets seem more active than usual. After setting up the equipment at the company, they waited for the eclipse to begin. However, as the time approached, the sky became overcast, and the eclipse was quickly hidden behind thick clouds. Despite this, they continued filming for about half an hour, capturing the entire process. The partial eclipse reached its maximum at around 4:08 AM, and the final phase ended at 6:13 AM.
Overall, the event was not very impressive. The visibility was poor due to the cloud cover, and the photography results were less than ideal. They realized that for the next eclipse, they need to be better prepared, choose a more favorable location, and check the weather forecast in advance.
Here are some photos from the day:
