Handling and method for oil leakage of crane gear pump

Oil leakage in a crane gear pump typically occurs when hydraulic oil bypasses the skeleton oil seal. This issue can lead to reduced efficiency, equipment damage, and safety risks. Below is a detailed analysis of the causes of oil leakage in small crane gear pumps and practical solutions to address the problem: First, the installation quality of the gear pump and the main machine plays a crucial role. The gear pump is usually mounted on a variable speed pump, which is then attached to the transmission system. If the end face of the gearbox or variable speed pump is not aligned properly with the center of the spline shaft, it creates cumulative errors. These misalignments can cause radial forces on the gear pump at high speeds, leading to oil seal failure. To prevent this, the installation tolerance between the gear pump and the main unit should be kept below 0.05 mm. Second, the condition of the spline connection also affects oil leakage. The outer stop of the gear pump and the inner stop of the variable speed pump, along with the external splines of the gear pump and the internal splines of the gear shaft in the gearbox, must have proper clearance. If the clearance is too large or uneven, it can lead to oil leakage. It's recommended to check the strength and contact length of the external spline on the gear pump shaft during operation to ensure sufficient engagement and reduce the risk of oil leakage. Third, the alignment of the variable speed pump with the gearbox output shaft is important. If the end face of the variable speed pump is not aligned with the rotational center of the gear, the center of the gear shaft will not match the center of the oil seal, causing improper sealing. Additionally, if the sealing ring has manufacturing defects such as cracks or scratches, it can lead to oil leakage. Poor-quality oil seals with incorrect geometry or loose tightening springs may fail under pressure, resulting in leaks after installation. In such cases, the oil seal should be replaced, and its material and dimensions should be carefully inspected. To maintain optimal performance and prevent oil leakage, regular maintenance and inspection of the gear pump, variable speed pump, and associated components are essential. Ensuring proper installation, checking spline alignment, and using high-quality oil seals are key steps in preventing oil leakage and extending the lifespan of the crane’s hydraulic system.
