The D-bolt C-ring high-pressure sealing structure is a variation of the D-bolt O-ring sealing system. It features a schematic design that incorporates a double-cone sealing mechanism, which is relatively simple in construction. The main machining processes include vertical turning, drilling, and tapping, making it easy to manufacture with moderate processing accuracy. However, when it comes to interrupting threads on the threaded sleeve and the external plug’s top cover, higher precision is required. Large-sized inserts and large-diameter sawtooth threads are challenging to process, especially if the cylinder thread is damaged. In contrast, when manufacturing the D-bolt sealing structure, it's only necessary to position the screw holes of the top cover and the cylinder end once, allowing for both drilling and tapping to be completed in one step. This simplifies the production process. Additionally, the D-bolt itself is straightforward to produce. However, the machining requirements for the C-ring or O-ring are more stringent, as they demand higher precision to ensure effective sealing. Sealing reliability in this system is enhanced by utilizing internal pressure to create a self-tightening action, which is an efficient way to improve sealing performance. For the double-cone structure, a longitudinal groove is milled into the cylindrical surface of the top cover. During pre-tightening, the main bolt presses the double-cone ring against the top cover, establishing an initial seal. When the system is in operation, the medium pressure enters the gap between the double-cone ring and the top cover, causing radial expansion and enhancing the self-tightening effect. However, once a leak occurs during operation, simply tightening the bolts is no longer effective. In the case of the Kazari seal, after tightening the pre-tightening bolts, the pressure ring compresses the gasket, bringing it into close contact with both the top cover and the cylinder end to form an initial seal. If the pre-tightening bolts loosen or leakage occurs during operation, they can be retightened, ensuring continued reliability of the seal. The D-bolt high-pressure sealing structure uses an elastic wire contact sealing gasket, such as a C-ring, to achieve the initial seal through pre-tightening screws. The pre-tightening level can be independently adjusted. As an example, a high-pressure container with an inner diameter of 500 mm, a design pressure of 15 MPa, and made from 16Mn forging material was used to compare the structural dimensions and quality of various sealing systems. In summary, the D-bolt high-pressure sealing structure has several key advantages: (1) It allows for easy assembly and disassembly of the D-shaped bolt using a 90-degree angle with standard tools, enabling quick installation and removal of the top cover and cylinder end. (2) The structure is lightweight, as the top cover is placed inside the cylinder end, significantly reducing its weight. Compared to the commonly used double-cone sealing structure, the total mass of the D-bolt system is reduced by 46.2%, and by 54.6% compared to the Kazari sealing structure. The larger the container diameter, the more pronounced this advantage becomes. (3) The seal is highly reliable, using line-contact self-tightening seals like the C-ring. The pre-tightening degree of the seal can be adjusted by tightening the screws, and the self-tightening effect becomes more evident when internal pressure increases.
