It’s a dream for many to have a personalized wardrobe that holds all their favorite clothes. Custom furniture is designed with the customer in mind, making smart use of every inch of space to meet individual needs. This thoughtful approach has earned it high praise and popularity among consumers.
However, when choosing custom furniture, it's important to be cautious—not just be swayed by its attractive appearance. The durability of furniture largely depends on the quality of hardware accessories, which directly impact the overall performance and functionality of the piece. Here’s a reminder: “Don’t be fooled by the gold outside—what matters most is the inside.†When buying custom furniture, hardware is the key!
**Tip 1: Hinge Hardware**
Hinge hardware includes door hinges, drawer slides, and cabinet hinges. For smooth and quiet operation, choose hinges with ball bearings in the shaft.
Drawer slides come in two or three-track designs. When selecting, pay attention to the finish, as well as the gap and strength of the wheels. A good drawer slide should offer smooth movement without noise, and the wheels should rotate evenly and wear evenly over time.
Cabinet door hinges are available in detachable and non-detachable types. In addition to checking the surface smoothness, make sure the hinge spring resets properly. Test the hinge by opening it to 95 degrees and pressing both sides. If the spring remains intact and strong, it’s a sign of a quality product.
**Tip 2: Locks and Handles**
Handles can be made from materials like zinc alloy, copper, aluminum, stainless steel, plastic, wood, ceramics, and more. They come in various shapes and colors to match different furniture styles. Electroplated or electrostatically painted handles are not only stylish but also resistant to wear and corrosion. Beyond aesthetics, they should also be sturdy enough to withstand heavy pulling. Ideally, a handle should endure at least 6 kg of force.
**Tip 3: Check Veneer Quality Carefully**
Whether it's real wood veneer, PVC, or pre-painted paper, check for flatness, bubbles, or peeling. Shine a light on the surface and look closely—if there are any imperfections, they’ll show up. For particleboard veneer furniture, the edges must be properly sealed. Poorly sealed edges can absorb moisture, swell, and eventually damage the furniture. Also, check the corners—vaneer furniture often has corners that lift easily. If you feel them lifting when touched, it may indicate poor glue application.
