Stone lotus is easy to maintain and thrives in warm, dry, and sunny conditions. It does not tolerate cold or excessive moisture, and should be kept out of direct sunlight. The ideal soil is well-draining, fertile sandy loam. Winter temperatures should not drop below 10°C. Each spring, during early spring, it's recommended to remove any dead leaves and overgrown offshoots. Refresh the potting soil with well-draining peat or humus soil to improve drainage. Add a small amount of phosphate fertilizer, but avoid over-fertilizing. During the growing season, keep the environment slightly dry and limit watering. Overly wet soil can cause the stems and leaves to become leggy and reduce the plant’s longevity. In severe winters, when temperatures drop, the excess roots may rot, leading to rootless plants. During hot summers, avoid heavy watering and instead mist the plant lightly to prevent waterlogging. Fertilize the seedlings once a month to maintain vibrant green foliage. However, too much fertilizer can lead to elongated stems and weak growth. Place the pots in a well-ventilated and bright area during the growing season. In winter, keep the room temperature around 10°C and ensure the plant receives enough light. For plants that are 2-3 years old or older, they may start to show signs of aging, so it's best to propagate new seedlings regularly. Stone lotus is prone to diseases like rust, leaf spot, and damage from root-knot nematodes. To treat these issues, you can spray a solution of 75% chlorothalonil at 800 times dilution. For root-knot nematodes, apply 3% carbofuran granules. Additionally, black weevils may appear, which can be controlled using 25% carbaryl wettable powder diluted to 500 times.
