The ultrasonic level gauge was connected to a switching power supply and functioned normally. However, when the same device was connected directly to the inverter, the echo map showed significant interference. This issue was traced back to electromagnetic interference (EMI) caused by the inverter.
Step 1: Grounding the ultrasonic level gauge.
The level gauge has three terminals, one of which is specifically for grounding. After grounding the device on-site, the echo pattern improved significantly.
Although the interference was reduced, the measurement was still inaccurate. Therefore, we decided to implement signal isolation. A signal isolator was added between the inverter and the ultrasonic level gauge, effectively blocking the EMI from the inverter. The resulting echo menu is as follows:
At this point, the echo menu appeared clean with no signs of interference. When compared with the actual liquid level on-site, the measurements from the ultrasonic level gauge were accurate.
From this case, it's clear that in environments with strong electromagnetic interference—such as those involving inverters, motors, or high-voltage cables—it's essential to take specific measures. Here are the key steps to follow:
First, access the echo menu (do not press and hold the up button; instead, press and hold the SET button for three seconds to enter the echo menu).
1. Ensure the grounding terminal of the Yellow River series ultrasonic level gauge is connected directly to a real earth ground and should not be shared with other equipment.
2. If grounding alone doesn't resolve the issue, install a signal isolator between the level gauge and devices like the PLC or inverter to block interference.
After resolving the EMI problem, exit the echo menu (do not press and hold the down button; instead, press and hold the SET button for three seconds to return to the main menu).

At the customer's site, a two-wire Yellow River series integrated ultrasonic level gauge was directly connected to an inverter with the intention of controlling motor speed based on the measured level data. However, there was a case where the measured data significantly deviated from the actual values.
