The ultrasonic level gauge was connected to a switching power supply, and it worked properly under normal conditions. However, when connected directly to the inverter, the echo map showed significant interference. The issue was traced back to electromagnetic interference (EMI) caused by the inverter.
Step 1 involved grounding the ultrasonic level gauge. The device has three terminals, one of which is specifically for grounding. After grounding the device on-site, the echo pattern improved significantly, as shown below:
Although the interference was reduced, the gauge still did not provide accurate readings. Therefore, the next step was to install a signal isolator between the inverter and the level gauge. This isolator effectively blocked the EMI from the inverter. The resulting echo menu was clear and free of interference, as seen here:
At this point, the measured liquid level matched the actual level on-site, confirming that the issue had been resolved.
From this case, we can conclude that in environments with strong electromagnetic interference—such as those involving inverters, motors, or high-voltage lines—it is essential to follow specific steps to ensure accurate measurements:
- First, access the echo menu by pressing and holding the SET button for three seconds (without pressing the up button).
- Ensure the grounding terminal of the Yellow River series ultrasonic level gauge is separately connected to a real earth ground, not shared with other devices.
- If grounding alone doesn’t resolve the issue, install a signal isolator between the level gauge and the inverter or PLC to block interference.
- Finally, exit the echo menu by pressing and holding the SET button for three seconds (without pressing the down button).
This example highlights the importance of proper grounding and isolation techniques when dealing with electromagnetic interference. It also demonstrates how critical it is to monitor and adjust the system settings to maintain reliable performance.
