On the previous trading day, the price of methanol in Zhengzhou reached a high of 2,849 yuan per ton, with the lowest offer at 2,829 yuan per ton. The closing price was 2,841 yuan per ton, marking an increase of 0.46% compared to the previous session. There were zero open positions, and the trading volume stood at 1,050 hands.
News updates: First, Shanxi Yangxi Fengxi raised its latest methanol offer to 2,850 yuan per ton for out-of-storage deliveries. Meanwhile, its Linyi plant, which has a production capacity of 200,000 tons per year, is currently undergoing maintenance starting on October 21st, expected to last about 15 days. The shutdown has led to limited shipments. Second, the methanol offer from Shanxi Orchid Branch (600123) was increased to 2,730 yuan per ton. Although actual trading volumes are slightly lower, the company's three plants, with a total capacity of 120,000 tons, are operating steadily. Daily output remains at 100 tons, and the supply of goods is relatively stable.
In the spot market, there is strong interest in the Jiangsu port methanol sector. Currently, the import offer in Taicang is priced between 3,370–3,380 yuan per ton, while domestic supply is offered at 3,280–3,300 yuan per ton. Jiangyin and Nanjing have seen limited availability recently. Import offers are being made cautiously, while Nantong’s import offer is executed at 3,380 yuan per ton.
Market views: The domestic methanol market continues to show an upward trend, with increased trading volumes compared to earlier periods. Prices in the northwest region remain stable, and the trading atmosphere is still acceptable. Reports indicate that on-site inventory levels have declined, suggesting potential for further price increases. Inland areas have experienced smooth shipment flows, leading to a positive sentiment among manufacturers, and short-term price movements are likely to be more optimistic. The port area maintains a strong market atmosphere, despite increased import supply, as merchant shipping pressure remains manageable. Domestic prices are still firm due to the influence of surrounding markets. Inland regions, particularly in the Lunan area, are expected to maintain their strength. Technically, the methanol 1401 contract has been oscillating within a range, and the market is expected to test resistance at the 2,850 yuan level. It is advisable to trade within the 2,800–2,850 yuan range for the near term.
