Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the timber anti-corrosion industry access standards

On September 27, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released the "Entry Requirements for the Wood Anti-Corrosion Industry" in China. This new policy aims to regulate the timber preservative sector by setting strict guidelines for new and expanded projects. According to the regulations, all new or upgraded wood anti-corrosion projects must align with national industrial policies, local development plans, land use strategies, and forestry management frameworks. The policy also restricts the establishment of new wood preservative manufacturers, except those developing high-efficiency, low-toxicity, and environmentally friendly products. In addition, existing facilities located within 1 km of schools, residential areas, or other highly polluting industries, as well as within 2 km of urban planning boundaries, are subject to stricter controls. Projects already operating in these sensitive zones that fail to meet the entry criteria must be rectified, relocated, or restructured within a specified timeframe. Furthermore, the "Conditions" specify minimum production capacities: new wood preservative projects must have a capacity of at least 2,000 tons per year, while anti-corrosion wood processing projects should reach 10,000 cubic meters annually. The production facilities must be equipped with anti-leakage and anti-corrosion measures. Any liquid waste from pressurized tanks must be recycled or properly disposed of, ensuring compliance with either general sewage discharge standards or site-specific environmental regulations. The policy also emphasizes the need for new wood preservative projects to be located within chemical parks or industrial clusters. It encourages existing manufacturers to consolidate and restructure, focusing on enhancing competitive advantages. This move is expected to promote sustainable growth and reduce environmental impact in the industry. This regulation reflects the Chinese government’s ongoing efforts to balance industrial development with environmental protection, ensuring that the timber preservation sector grows responsibly and efficiently.
