What is the adverse effect of improper operation of plastic mold heat treatment?

During the processing of plastic molds , cracks or deformation, surface oxidation and decarburization occur, mainly because the mold fails. The reason for the failure of the plastic mold is mainly due to improper mold heat treatment process, such as the temperature of the heating, the length of the holding time, the cooling speed and other heat treatment process parameters are not properly selected.
First, the effects on oxidation and decarburization are mainly due to the fact that the quenching of the mold is stopped at high temperatures, but it cannot be strictly controlled. In addition, after decarburization of the outer surface of the mold, due to the difference in the inner and outer layers, large structural stress is present during cooling, and quenching cracks are caused.
Second, about the speed of heating. Since the mold steel contains more carbon and alloying elements, the thermal conductivity is poor. Therefore, the heating speed should not be too fast, and should be stopped slowly to avoid deformation and cracking of the mold. In the air furnace heating and quenching, in order to avoid oxidation and decarburization, the box is used to maintain heating. At this time, the heating rate should not be too fast, and the heat transfer should be slow.
If the mold is heated at a high speed, the heat is quickly transferred, and a large thermal stress is generated inside and outside the mold. If the control is not good, the situation like deformation or crack is very easy to happen. In the prevention, it is necessary to use preheating or slow down the heating rate.
