How to apply chlorothalonil preparation and precautions
Chlorothalonil is a highly effective, low-toxicity, and low-residue broad-spectrum fungicide that offers both preventive and curative effects. It is particularly useful in protecting greenhouse crops such as cucumbers from downy mildew and tomatoes from early blight, late blight, and gray mold, as well as celery from leaf spot and amaranth from gray mold. The pesticide formulation can be applied before or during the early stages of disease. The typical dosage is between 250 to 300 grams per 667 square meters.
Before application, it's important to close all vents and louvers to ensure maximum coverage. Two main methods are commonly used for application: fixed-point smoking and mobile smoking.
For fixed-point smoking, select several strategic points within the greenhouse and place the smoke agent evenly on the ground—ideally hanging it if possible. Light the agent using incense or a cigarette. The smoke agent usually comes in 100g bags. In a large greenhouse, you can use the entire bag. For smaller sheds, you can roll old newspapers into small tubes, place the smoke powder inside, and ignite it. Alternatively, you can cut a 100g smoke column into two parts for use. The ignition should start from one end of the shed and move sequentially to the next.
Mobile smoking involves placing the smoke agent on a shovel, lighting it, and moving slowly from one end of the shed to the other. However, this method is generally not recommended due to the risk of poisoning.

1. After applying the smoke, the greenhouse should remain sealed for at least four hours. It’s best to apply the treatment before and after sunset. The next day, open all louvers and vents fully to ventilate.
2. Chlorothalonil aerosols should only be used in enclosed greenhouses and must be properly sealed during application.
3. Store the aerosol containers away from heat sources and moisture. Never use an open flame when igniting the smoke.
4. Always protect your eyes and skin while using the product. Wash your face, hands, and any exposed areas with soapy water after use.
