Security Information Consumption Makes Security Civilian

With the rise in living standards, people's demand for security has grown significantly, and their awareness of personal safety has also been strengthened. As a result, security measures that were once limited to special environments are now gradually entering the homes of ordinary people. Security products have transitioned from being exclusive to specialized use, and now play an increasingly important role in daily life. The Chinese security industry has seen steady growth over the years, with a high rate of expansion. To maintain this momentum, companies must identify new highlights and breakthroughs. The integration of e-commerce with the security sector has enabled security firms to reach more consumers, boost product visibility, and increase profits. Traditional sales channels are evolving into more comprehensive, multi-dimensional models. In May 2013, Minister Miao Wei of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology conducted research on information consumption in Zhejiang Province. He visited several leading companies and emphasized the importance of leveraging information consumption to stimulate domestic demand and economic growth. With the rapid development of new technologies, such as smart devices and mobile internet, information consumption is becoming a key driver of consumer trends. On July 12, Premier Li Keqiang chaired a State Council meeting where he reiterated the need to promote information consumption and deepen the integration of industrialization and informatization. Key steps included improving broadband infrastructure, promoting smart city initiatives, and expanding access to digital services. These efforts aim to create a more connected and secure society. The concept of "consumer security" has gained traction in recent years. Events like the China International Social Security Products Expo have featured dedicated areas showcasing civilian security products. These exhibits simulate real-life scenarios, helping consumers understand how security solutions can be applied at home, in shops, or in communities. For security companies, increasing sales and maintaining stable growth remain major challenges. Experts believe that the civilian market holds significant potential. With approximately 100 million urban households in China, and considering GDP growth and urbanization rates, the projected demand for security systems could reach 50 million units over the next five years, creating a market worth 50 billion yuan. This does not even include rural areas or smaller businesses, which could further expand the market. Traditionally, security products were designed for professional use, requiring expert installation. However, a growing segment of "consumer security" products has emerged—those that are easy to use and suitable for everyday applications. These are often sold through e-commerce platforms, signaling a shift toward more accessible and user-friendly security solutions. As mobile internet and smart devices become more prevalent, security companies are increasingly integrating with online platforms. This cross-border collaboration allows for better connectivity and convenience, making security more aligned with modern lifestyles. E-commerce has introduced multiple modes of operation, including direct B2C sales, third-party online stores, and supporting channel distributors. While some traditional dealers may worry about competition, e-commerce is more likely to coexist with existing channels, allowing for a balanced approach. Hikvision, a leading security company, launched its own e-commerce platform in 2013, marking a significant step toward civilian market expansion. This initiative reflects a strategic shift, focusing on household and small business users. Through B2C and B2B models, Hikvision aims to streamline sales processes and improve customer experience. Looking ahead, the future of security will involve more integrated online and offline operations, enhancing service delivery and customer engagement. The evolution of security is not just about technology—it’s about transforming how we live, work, and protect our daily lives.
